Our Toddler Program was developed for children to create opportunities for
confidence building, developing trust, language development, motor skills
and social growth.
The two day per week, 2.5 hour program provides a wonderful, nurturing
environment. In the 2's program we provide experiences which stimulate all
the senses. We have a ratio of four teachers to sixteen Toddlers, in order to
meet each child's needs.
Our Toddler's are given the freedom to explore developmentally appropriate
activities inside and outside in our rural setting.
Children in our 2's program do not need to be potty trained.
Parents and caregivers are expected to be available in the trust building
process. They are also asked to participate in the closing circle time.
Our curriculum for children in the 3 year old and Pre-K classes is designed
to help children understand, appreciate and live in their total environment,
providing a solid foundation for later school experiences. We attempt to
find a balance of directed and creative, physical and intellectual
experiences for each child.
Teachers work with the children to foster their emotional growth and social
skills. Children are encouraged to talk with each other, express their needs
and frustration and discover ways to solve their conflicts in socially
acceptable ways.
The interests of the children are incorporated in developing unit themes
which include many curriculum areas including Science and Music.

Program Overview
Early childhood is a time for exploration and discovery. The LCC
Preschool Young 5s program will provide an environment for children
where they can grow emotionally, socially, creatively and intellectually while
preparing them for Kindergarten.
This new program is for 5-year-old children who have had a year in a
4s/pre-k class and would benefit from an extra year of enrichment and
individual attention before entering Kindergarten. Because of California‘s
late Kindergarten cut-off dates, some children with late summer or fall
birthdays are simply not ready for the increasing academic rigors of
Kindergarten.
Objectives
Learning experiences in the Young 5s program will accommodate all
learning styles and abilities. Each child will feel competent and cared for.
Children will:
• Help decide themes that the class will study
• Expand their knowledge of numeration, patterns and problem solving;
develop phonological and print awareness
• Gain conflict resolution and communication skills while developing
independence
• Increase their creativity and self-expression through book making,
drama, music, and open-ended art experiences
• Enjoy hands-on science experiments and projects
Summary
The Young Fives program will foster a strong community of children who
see learning as an opportunity to be successful problem-solvers and
anticipate each new challenge as another exciting adventure.
